Dear Community Friend:

Season’s Greetings from the children and staff of MARDS!

As we celebrate a milestone 25 years of invaluable service to the Atlanta community, we must stop to reflect on how blessed we are to have had your support. The legacy of our Founder, the late Mrs. Gwendolyn Gilley-Conley, is still being fulfilled through the many lives that we enhance daily by way of our programs and services.

We continue to provide unmatched services to mentally and physically challenged, at-risk and typical children, and we remain one of Atlanta’s most needed resources – a pillar in the Southwest community. Our work through services this year has included the following programs: Early Childhood, Pre-K instruction, Before and After-school care, Summer Enrichment, and co-ed Charm & Etiquette in an inclusive setting, as well as our cornerstone Weekend Respite program. Your donations, prayers and well wishes continue to make it possible for us to provide these much needed services.

MARDS has enriched the lives of more than a thousand children over the last twenty five years, and while we have experienced some tough times; I have witnessed the many accomplishments that we have made over the years.

As we close out this anniversary year we are asking that you join us for an afternoon of celebration and appreciation at our “2011 Holiday with Friends” event. This afternoon of fellowship will take place on Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at our facility- 1335 Kimberly Road SW Atlanta, Georgia 30331. The festivities will be hosted by Twanda Black – Kiss 104′s Host of Good News Gospel, as well as various community partners, local media, and families of the students that we serve. We will enjoy a light meal and delicious desserts, and take a walk through the illustrious history of MARDS.

You are an important part of our history and we would like to thank you for your commitment to community stewardship and social responsibility.

In light of the tremendous reduction of philanthropic donations and grant opportunities for nonprofit organizations across our nation, it has become increasingly more difficult to maintain our programs and services.

In this season of giving, we ask that in lieu of another holiday gift to someone who has everything; consider making a donation in that person’s name to MARDS. We are hopeful that you will join us for this spirit filled afternoon of laughter and fellowship, however should you find that you are unable to attend you may submit a tax-deductible donation via mail, or through our website by clicking here: ( Donations will also be accepted via holiday boxes throughout our facility. Additionally, you may support a specific program or service currently offered at MARDS through the purchase of Christmas ornaments made by the children.

As we venerate the life and legacy of our beloved founder there is no better way to pay homage to her memory than continuing her dream of enhancing the lives of those families who rely on our services. By helping the children of MARDS you are also investing in the long-term future health of our community. We are grateful for your support, and hope to see you on December 15th!

Best Wishes,

Albert Smith
